National Flag 国旗

On the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the red color symbolizes revolution; the five five-pointed stars and their relations symbolize the unity of the revolutionary people under the leadership of the Communist Party. The five-pointed stars adopt yellow color in order to make them stand out on the red background. The yellow color is brighter and more beautiful than the white. The four small stars are arranged in such a way to be in line with the bigger star with one of their points directing to the central point of the latter, denoting that the unity is around one core.

On September 27th, 1949, the 1st Plenary Session of the CPPCC passed the motion that the five star red flag be adopted as the national flag.

On June 28th, 1990, the 14th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress approved the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the National Flag, promulgated by Order of the President of the People's Republic of China, and effective as of October 1, 1990.

The National Flag of the People's Republic of China is the symbol and hallmark of the People's Republic of China. All Chinese citizens and organizations should respect and cherish the National Flag.
